The Tracey Fragments - May 22, 2008 - at AGW

The Tracey Fragments
Canada 2007; Dir: Bruce McDonald; Runtime: 77 min
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0jEN2_REy4
Website: thetraceyfragments.com

Presented almost entirely in split-screen frames, Bruce McDonald’s film has received much praise for its innovative visual design. Far from being merely a technical tour de force, the film’s exploration of a troubled teenaged girl is a daring glimpse into a traumatized mindset. The most impressive aspect of the film is Ellen Page as Tracey, who has
emerged as one of the most promising actors in Canadian cinema.

Rules for Party Etiquette by MISScat

Now many of you know that I get requests from time to time to promote others events and exciting things that are happening around the world. Well this was no exception, MISScat is a Manger of Artist Releations for Eventful which hosts many events including the Dfest and asked if I would place a link on my blog, so as I usually do I had to check out hers and this is what I found :)

http://www.myspace.com/missscat

By MISScat

many of us (including me) are guilty of doing/not doing these things...please note that no single occurrence prompted me to write this... :) enjoy.

here are my rules of "party etiquette" (in no particular order)

1. There really ARE some days where people don't feel like drinking--don't make them. Believe it or not, people can have fun while sober. Shocking, I know.

2. When your friends include you in their "rounds," don't forget. Get them back by buying a round too--never mooch off anyone. If you're broke this time around, tell them you'll get them back next time--and REMEMBER. Alcohol isn't cheap.

3. Be DD when it's your turn. When you have noticed that you haven't driven in awhile, DRIVE. Don't let the same person drive all the time. Gas isn't cheap.

4. When you ARE DD, don't get too fucked up. Other people's lives are in your hands.

5. Pitch in for parking. Always. Don't have change? Get it somehow, and pitch in. If you say you'll pay someone back, do so. Granted, some people honestly do forget, but this is for the people who NEVER make the effort to pay.

6. NEVER, and I mean NEVER throw up in someone else's car.

7. If by some reason you happen to throw up in someone else's car, pay for them to get it washed and detailed the next morning--nothing less. Don't make the driver suffer in your wasteful stench.

8. NEVER throw up on another human being. There is no resolution for this. None.

9. Try not to get too fucked up (unless of course the celebration is in your honor--birthday, going away, etc). Signs that you've gotten too fucked up: getting kicked out of the establishment while escorted by big ol' bodyguards, blacking out and not remembering what previously happened, falling down all over the place...etc.

10. Blacking out and not remembering what happened to you is never good. Try to refrain from it, unless of course it was a celebration in your honor.

11. Everyone gets too messed up at one time or another. NEVER leave your friend(s) hanging. Take care of them. If they're puking, hold their hair (if it's a girl) and get them water. Don't assume someone else will take care of them--just do it.

12. Don't do anything you'll regret the next day. Period.

13. Don't drive drunk. Don't let your friends drive drunk. Do what you've gotta do to ensure your friends' safety as well as your own-- even if it means napping in the parking lot while you sober up or calling your ex's friend's sister's cousin to pick you up.

14. Shit happens. The situations aforementioned will always occur--there's no getting away from it. If you're not willing to put up with it, stay home.

15. None of these rules apply when you're in Vegas. Just kidding...or am I? Hey, toilet hugging and wheelchairing make fine stories, and pictures. HAH.

This list is by no means exhaustive; if you have a golden rule you'd like to contribute, please do so! Thank you, and I hope this will turn you all into "responsible" partiers. lol.

Update - May 2008

Here's what's new... (from The Golden Hands Before God myspace

First up, you'll notice some new songs up. Six to be exact. The first three - "Communist Party", "Blood of November" and "One Fine Morning" - are the final mixes/masters from Here. "New Master's Workhorse Blues" is a live recording from one of our favourite places to play, The Avalon Front in Windsor, Ontario (our home-town). Sadly, the Avalon closed down in late 2007. But it's owner, Tony Facchinerri, was a dear friend of the bands and always let us have shows when we needed them. This live recording, albeit during a slightly looser, slightly drunker portion of the set, still captures the magic of playing to dear friends. "Miss Your Love" and "Country Song" are demo recordings done in 2006, recorded at Dennis Moore's studio (where we used to rehearse). These were recorded weeks after Damien and I joined the band. Enjoy for now!

Lee, Damien and I just left Earl's place (Earl is aka Stephen Nilsson, our artiste extraordinaire). Earl is finishing up the artwork and it will be sent off to the fine folks at Pop Echo Records tomorrow. That'll be the last of the stuff sent off in preparation of the release of our EP, Here. We're looking at roughly 10 weeks from now, so we're looking at end of July for a release date. We'll let you know ASAP.

We got notice...we are playing the 2008 North By Northeast (NXNE) Conference in Toronto, Ontario! Our showcase is on Friday June 13th at The Savannah Room (294 College). We go on at midnight sharp. Spread the word! It's gonna be a blast, not just because we're playing. A lot of our friends are playing the same night - The Besnard Lakes and Fox Jaws for starters - and with so many more in town for the weekend (or just plain live there - word to our boys in The Speaking Tongues!), it should make for one HELL of an after party.

We have some big plans for the weekend of the NXNE show - more on this as it is finalized.

We are also playing the 2008 National Campus and Community Radio Conferene (NCRC) in Windsor, Ontario. It is a couple nights before NXNE. We're playing the showcase at The Loop (156 Chatham St. West, above Pogo's) on Tuesday June 10th. More info on the line-up as it comes to us.

We've got a festival in Detroit coming up as well. Our friends in Friends of Dennis Wilson have invited us to join the roster of the 5th Annual Fiberglass Freakout, a psychedelic garage rock festival held in Detroit at The National Bohemian Home. It's held on Saturday June 21st and will feature (aside from us and Friends of Dennis Wilson) our T.O. pals The Speaking Tongues! A whack load of fine Michigan bands as well (just don't know the line-up yet!).

That's it for now! Check back here for new show dates, EP updates and more!

Lots of love,
Jamie

Operation Herbie - June 1, 2008 - International Children's Day

Recieved this from Elizabeth Nagy from http://www.operationherbie.com

My name is Elizabeth Nagy. I am a volunteer fundraiser (in addition to holding a full-time job).

This year, I became a member of a great organization (I know, all organizations are great, but this one is really special to me!), called Operation Herbie. This volunteer-based organization belongs to The Hospital for SickKids and has been has been raising money for the Herbie Fund for over 28 years. The group is dedicated to bringing children from all parts of the world, who are in need of life-saving or life-altering surgeries to SickKids for medical treatment. Here is the link to its website: www.operationherbie.com

I am in the process of organizing a fundraiser, for the first time in Windsor, to benefit Operation Herbie. Could you please help me promote the event and the organization by posting some info (see below) about my upcoming event on your website. I greatly appreciate your support in advance.

For your review, I have attached a copy of Operation Herbie's support letter.

Neverending White Lights at St Andrew's Hall - June 8, 2008 and more

This is right from the Daniel Victor - Neverending White Lights blog

http://www.myspace.com/neverendingwhitelights

First things first:

OURS wsg/ NEVERENDING WHITE LIGHTS
SUN JUNE 8TH, ST. ANDREW'S HALL
DETROIT MI
7PM
Yes, we're opening for my beloved friends in Detroit.
See you there.
Now, onward.

Where have I been eh? Where is Waldo and what is he up to?

I hate April, so I mostly spent last month in hiding. Though you may have spotted me at the LCBO. I think I bought groceries once. Oh, and I saw M.I.A also, as you all know I love her. Other happenings....I ran into Tokyo Police Club in a Detroit bathroom, had a Grey's Anatomy party (15 million people heard "Distance" that night), stole a slew of cars via GTA4, and cursed myself for not buying enough new albums.

Otherwise, been finishing the Pleasure Machines album that my friend March Zo and I have been working on the past 3 years. I may have blogged about it a while ago, I'll post some music in the upcoming months when we've mixed it.

Black Ribbons? Fate could change on that. I'm having issues figuring out how I'm going to release all the new music I've been working on....as not to confuse people with new projects, etc. It's in my nature to be abundant and create a vast plethora of musical offerings for the world to soak up, alas doing so in so many different variations might shift the focus off of having a main source of output. In other words, I'm thinking now about just releasing a solo album. But we'll see.

We're discussing the next single(s)? these days, so there will be more Act 2 activity in the upcoming months, and dare I say we've even discussed the possibility of an NWL TOUR? What? Could be in fall. Time will tell if I crawl up from my basement studio and get out to you.

Stay tuned for further ramblings.
I leave you now to be with your mothers.
